Drs. Fanny Yacaman and Frank Vidjak specialize in endodontics and prosthodontics, respectively. As specialists committed to the highest standards of quality and safety in dental care, they appreciate that teeth restored in their on-site dental lab should look, feel, and function like the “real thing.” This means the new tooth structure should be indistinguishable from the natural tooth before it sustained damage caused by decay, gum disease, or other trauma.
Accordingly, you will not find silver-colored metal fillings at our specialty center in Beverly Hills, California. As a mercury-free dentist office, Beverly Hills Advanced Specialties of Dentistry uses high-performance, non-toxic, and aesthetic dental materials to rebuild teeth.
Contrary to their name, silver fillings are primarily made from mercury. Our practice is free of any materials and products that contain known toxins, and the adverse health effects of mercury are well-documented. While the “household name” for these conventional fillings is derived from their color or silver hue, they are actually a dental “amalgam” or combination of metals. These metals include copper, silver, and tin. But mercury accounts for around half of each filling by weight (on average).
Amalgam fillings are a common source of mercury exposure. Over 250 digestive, respiratory, immune system, and other symptoms have been associated with exposure to this toxin. In addition to the health and environmental concerns, amalgam fillings do not look like natural teeth. The dark color sticks out in the smile, and not in a good way. Metal fillings also require aggressive preparation, as more of the natural tooth is drilled out to make way for the placement of the filling material. Lastly, “silver” fillings do not wear well. They can corrode with the passage of time. The tooth may be vulnerable to future damage as the filling degrades, such as reinfection. Additional restorative treatment may be required, or the tooth may even be lost.
Beverly Hills Advanced Specialties of Dentistry has selected only the most attractive, safe, and strong ceramics (like porcelain) and composite resin materials. Fillings and other restorations made from these materials:
Should patients have more extensive decay, Dr. Yacaman applies her world-class training and experience to resolve deep inflammation or infection. She is internationally-recognized for her skill with precision non-surgical root canal therapy and other advanced endodontic surgical techniques. Following treatment, the tooth is restored with Dr. Vidjak’s exact attention to detail.
Never ignore changes like unexplained sensitivity to sweet foods or cold beverages. Oral conditions are notorious for not going away on their own. They are also progressive, and the symptoms will only get worse if you ignore them. They demand prompt, quality care. And the more advanced the condition, the more extensive and time-consuming it will be to treat the underlying problem. So, call (310) 861-3955 to schedule your appointment at our Beverly Hills, CA specialty office today. We look forward to keeping your tooth healthy and looking great again soon!
