There is no silver bullet when it comes to putting anxious or apprehensive patients at ease at Beverly Hills Advanced Specialties of Dentistry. From our comfortable and well-appointed office, our specialists spend extra time with anxious patients or those just starting to reacquaint themselves with dentistry. It is a point of pride that our team helps so many patients from across Los Angeles County, California, feel so comfortable that they almost always end up laughing with us. In addition to our unhurried, friendly, and non-judgmental approach to care, we have an advanced “helper” in the form of sedation dentistry.
Our team is led by endodontist Dr. Fanny Yacaman, and prosthodontist, Dr. Frank Vidjak. Patients trust their considerable training and experience with preserving, restoring, and rebuilding teeth and oral tissues. Furthermore, they have invested in additional licensing and technologies to support their mission of providing the highest-quality, safest, and most pleasant treatment experience. Dr. Yacaman is certified to provide oral conscious sedation. This form of relaxing sedation is generally considered a “step up” from very mild sedation with nitrous oxide or laughing gas. It simply involves taking a prescription medication orally or by mouth, as advised by Dr. Yacaman. It helps individuals with more moderate anxiety or dental fear to relax in the treatment chair. For patients with even greater needs, our specialists enlist the expertise of a trusted and certified anesthesiologist to administer IV (intravenous) sedation.
With both methods, we monitor your vitals for utmost safety throughout treatment. True to its name, with oral conscious sedation, patients remain conscious or awake throughout the procedure. They can still respond to questions and communicate with our team. They may become so drowsy that they nod off. There is the added benefit afterward that patients will likely remember little to nothing about the process and any associated “triggers” or dental fear. With IV sedation, you can fall asleep and wake up with a healthy, beautiful smile!
Sedation dentistry may also be well-suited for patients who are:
