At Beverly Hills Advanced Specialties of Dentistry, we have invested in the latest clinically proven effective and safe technologies. Our specialists, prosthodontist Dr. Frank Vidjak and endodontist Dr. Fanny Yacaman, are advocates of exceptional training on these advanced technologies and next-generation techniques. We are always looking forward, with our patients’ utmost comfort, safety, outcomes, and experience at the heart of all that we do. With that being said, other dental providers in Beverly Hills, California, and farther afield may continue to offer outdated forms of treatment, such as amalgam (“silver” fillings). We are proud to be a mercury-free practice!
Dental amalgam was first used well over a century ago. Imagine all the transformations made in health care, technology, and every corner of our lives in the past five to 10 years, let alone the past 100! Importantly, amalgam is mainly silver in color only. This combination or amalgamation of metals is primarily made up of mercury, as well as copper, tin, and silver. More than half of each mercury filling (by weight) is formulated with mercury. Elemental mercury has been associated with a multitude of health-related ailments and conditions. Though systemic effects related to amalgam fillings have not been scientifically substantiated, many people are concerned about possible health risks and want these fillings removed.
Fortunately, our specialists use an array of alternatives to silver-hued, mercury-containing metal amalgam filling materials. These materials include composite resins and dental ceramics, such as porcelain. Resin and ceramic do not contain toxins and are not associated with adverse health risks. Additionally, they are well-suited to patients with a history of metals allergies or sensitivities. Plus, our patients appreciate that they look like natural teeth – no unsightly silver! These non-metals further do not corrode like metals, and they do not irritate delicate surrounding soft tissues or potentially damage surrounding otherwise healthy teeth. Techniques may also be employed with these alternatives that preserve maximum tooth structure. In doing so, the most natural appearance, optimal function, and sustained health and strength are supported.
Tooth decay or other oral health problems do not go away on their own. They require treatment that you can trust. Contact our exceptional team at (310) 861-3955 to schedule your appointment at Beverly Hills Advanced Specialties of Dentistry today.
